This southern European country is an archipelago situated in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. The Maltese Archipelago consists of three main islands: Malta, Gozo, and Comino. Filfla and Kemunett are very small uninhabited islands that are also part of the country. This group of islands is a popular tourist destination. Malta is the largest of the islands, and draws the most visitors, its capital is Valletta and the largest town is Birkirkara. Malta offers several recreational options, some wonderful history and architecture, and nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Megalithic Temples - some of the oldest free-standing structures in the world.

Business Information

Malta’s main industries are tourism, limestone mining, and shipping services. Film production also contributes to the Maltese economy, with several big-budget foreign films shooting on location in Malta each year. There are banking and finance components to the economy, with two national banks - Bank of Valletta and Central Bank of Malta – and HSBC service centres, operating on the island. Emmanuel Delicata is a winery based in Malta and Simonds Farsons Cisk is a local brewery. There are many opportunities for serviced offices in Malta.

Entertainment And Dining Out

Water sports and beach activities are one of the main draws for tourism on Malta. Each island offers unique sights, take a countryside hike or sail around the islands to witness the impressive array of views, scenic caves and sunsets. Maltese cuisine has been heavily influenced by Italian food. One of the island’s specialities is rabbit (fenek), as well as the small savoury pastries known as pastizzi that can be found in many restaurants.

Transport Information

Malta International Airport, located in the Southern Maltese town of Luqa is the only major airport in the island cluster. The national air carrier, Air Malta, offers regular connections to many European, North African, and Middle Eastern countries and budget airlines also provide flights from this airport. There is ferry service to the Sicilian port of Catania and Pozzallo in Italy. The ferries take passengers, as well as cars, trucks, or campers. Public transportation in Malta includes bus service and taxis. You can easily rent cars, scooters or even take jeep safaris on the island. It is also possible to charter a boat to spend time on the sea or to travel between the islands.
