Hampstead is an area of London 4 miles from Charing Cross. It is known for its intellectual, artistic, musical and literary associations, and for Hampstead Heath, a large, beautiful expanse of parkland. It has some of the most expensive housing in the London area, with the village of Hampstead having more millionaires within its boundaries than any other area of the United Kingdom. Hampstead is known for its upmarket retail outlets, as well as housing many independent boutiques in its countless hidden nooks and crannies. The side streets provide a quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of the main road, and the chances of stumbling upon a gastro-pub are high. There are many amenities in the vicinity, including museums, libraries, banks, convenience stores and restaurants, making this an ideal location in which to base a business.

Setting up your business here

The Royal Free Hospital is the largest employer in Hampstead, and many small businesses based in the area have international significance. George Martin s AIR recording studios, in Lyndhurst Road, is a current example. Networking opportunities are easily found in the area, with many breakfast and after work meetings set up for this purpose. Transport links into Central London are efficient, providing easy access for the thousands of commuters on a daily basis.

Things to do in Hampstead

Hampstead is known for its cultural attractions, including a number of independent art galleries, churches, synagogues and parkland. Local activities include open-air concerts on summer evenings on the slopes below Kenwood House, which has recently reopened after major refurbishment. There are also book and poetry readings, fun fairs on the lower reaches of the Heath, and period harpsichord recitals at Fenton House. The area has some stunning architecture, including the Isokon building in Lawn Road, a Grade I listed experiment in collective housing, once home to Agatha Christie, Henry Moore, Ben Nicholson and Walter Gropius. The Everyman Cinema has been listed as one of the most luxurious in London, due to its plush seats and waiter service. There are plentiful eateries in Hampstead, including The Coffee Cup, where some of the best coffee in the area can be found, alongside a menu which is very popular with locals.
