Connecticut is one of the fifty states in the United States of America. It is situated in the northeastern region of the country and is bordered by Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York State, and the Long Island Sound. The capital of Connecticut is Harford. The Connecticut River leant its name to the state. This is a major U.S. river cuts the state, almost in half.

The state of Connecticut is famous for its apple orchards. You will find apple fritters and many other dishes using apples. The region of New England, which Connecticut is part of, is famous for its extensive use of seafood and dairy products in its cooking. New England clam chowder is one example of this cuisine. It is typically made with clams, cream, and butter. Connecticut is also known for its apizza (particularly the white clam pie), shad, and shadbakes, and grinders (subway type sandwiches).

Transport Information

The states largest airport is Bradley International Airport (BDL), located in Windsor Locks, near the cities of Hartford, Connecticut and Springfield, Massachusetts. There is a passenger and vehicle ferry service available on the Long Island Sound at two points. The first is between Port Jefferson, Long Island and Bridgeport, Connecticut, the second connects New London, Connecticut and Orient Point, New York. Amtrak train service is available to several Connecticut destinations, linking the state to New York City and Boston. There is also light rail commuter service between Manhattan and several cities and towns in southwestern Connecticut. There is also bus service throughout the state.
