From 16th and 17th century buildings, to Roman remains of public buildings that date from 2,000 years ago, Zaragoza has a fascinating history. The city was originally named for the Emperor August and there are visible ruins of the Roman Forum, Baths, and Great Theatre to intrigue a visitor. The Basilica de Nuestra Senora del Pilar is a cathedral that dates back to the 16th century and contains a museum which is open daily. You will find entrees such as dorada in a salt crust, turbot, hake, or grilled squid. There are also non-fish entrees for the meat eaters such as beefsteak with a variety of sauces. Los Barrachos is a more formal restaurant serving items such as roasted pheasant, wild boar, and asparagus mousse. Located in the centre of town, the restaurant also offers a tasting menu.

Transport Information

There is a small Zaragoza Airport which provides both international and domestic flights and is also home to the Spanish Air Force 15th Group. There is a high speed railway which connects to both Madrid and Barcelona in a little over an hour. Getting around the town on foot is probably the easiest way to travel although there are a number of public transport options.
