In the German state of Bavaria, situated on the Pegnitz River and the Rhine–Main–Danube Canal, Nuremberg is a large city 170 kilometres (110 miles) north of Munich. During the Middle Ages, the Nuremberg castle was one of the most important imperial castles of the Holy Roman Empire. This is a must see while you are in the city. The Sinwell Tower was built in the 13th century. The view from the top of the castle is incredible. Meals in Nuremberg may include German specialties such as Bratwurst (roasted sausage). Nürnberger Bratwürste is half the size of other cities offering, but they are spicier. The sausage is often served with Sauerkraut or potato salad. There are many options for food stalls along Konigstrabe, a main street that leads into the historical old town. Other dining options include La Creperie du Chateau, a restaurant located near the Castle. This restaurant serves French cuisine, with crepes being a specialty. There is outdoor dining in good weather. Historische Bratwurstküche is a restaurant that is situated in an old timber-framed house. They specialise in roasted sausages. There has been a restaurant at this location since 1419, making it the oldest sausage restaurant in the world.

Transport Information

Nuremberg Airport offers flights to major German cities and many European destinations. It is a hub for Air Berlin, Germany’s second largest airline. The airport (Flughafen) is connected with the subway system by U-Bahn. The city is tied into numerous highways, railways, and a waterway. Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof is a stop for IC and ICE trains on the German long-distance railway network. The Nuremberg tramway network, Nuremberg S-Bahn suburban metro railway, and a regional train network, provide great public transportation options. Nuremberg is an important port on the Main–Danube Canal.
