Saint-Genis-Pouilly is a commune in the Ain department in eastern France. Saint-Genis-Pouilly is composed of two market towns (Saint-Genis and Pouilly) and two hamlets (Pregnin and Flies). This village is located in the Pays de Gex, at the foot of the Jura. Bordering the Swiss frontier, it is part of the cross-border area of Geneva.

Business Information

A large portion of CERN, the European laboratory for particle physics, is located in the territory of Saint-Genis-Pouilly. CERN is one of the top locations in the world for fundamental research and the presence of CERN led to the development of the community during the 1960s. Saint Genis Pouilly has a technology park (Technoparc), helping the town become the centre of economic activity in the Pays de Gex. Companies in the park include Advanced Accelerator Applications and Bello Instrumentation. The park and other areas within Saint Genis Pouilly offer many choices for shared offices.

Entertainment And Dining Out

If you are in Saint Genis Pouilly in France, you are right on Lake Geneva (AKA Lac Leman). If you have any spare time whilst you’re in the city do go for a walk around this beautiful lake. Sights you can appreciate include the incredible wine producing La Vaux area with its magnificent terraced vine orchards. The eastern end of the lake will allow you to drive up into the mountains to the Morgins ski resort. Or you could head north and drive through breathtaking canyons and winding roads all the way around the lake and back to Geneva. The complete tour can be done comfortably in one day. Restaurant Le Coq Rouge serves French cuisine, with a reservation. The food is great, the wine list extensive. Ask the waitress for a selection of local cheeses.

Transport Information

The village is served by the Geneva Cointrin International Airport. It is connected by Geneva Airport railway station with both the Swiss railway network and the French SNCF network. This includes getting to Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and Montpellier by TGV. Geneva is connected to the motorway systems of both Switzerland (A1 motorway) and France. Leave Geneva heading North and cross the border at the main CERN crossing, just after Meyrin.
