Lille is a medium-sized city in the Nord-Pas de Calais region of northern France. It is located on the Deule River, near the border with Belgium. Lille is France’s fifth largest metropolitan area, and has a large student population. From the main commercial streets to the peculiar little boutiques of the Vieux Lille, from arts and crafts shops to the biggest names in luxury and home decoration, Lille offers a vast choice for those who love to shop. Or you can simply wander around the city and enjoy the selection of tiny streets and squares. Lille also offers a selection of gardens, including the impressive Bois De Boulogne Park and zoo.

Lille’s city center is beautiful and the sights can be covered in a walking tour. La Vieille Bourse is a commercial exchange where you can find booksellers and flower markets in the inner court. The main square, Place du Général-de-Gaulle, better known as the "Grand place", offers incredible historic townhouses, like the neo-Flemish headquarters of local newspaper, La Voix du Nord. There is also a fountain with the statue of a goddess, "la Grande Déesse", dating from 1843. Lille has hundreds of little patisseries that sell cakes, and a number of chocolate shops. Try Guillaume Vincent that sells exquisitely decorated chocolates.
