Officially the Republic of Panama, this country is located in Central America. Panama is located on the far southern end of Central America, on the isthmus connecting North and South America. The country is bordered by Costa Rica, Colombia, the Caribbean Sea, and the Pacific Ocean. The capital of Panama is Panama City.

Business Information

Panama’s economy is largely based on banking, commerce, tourism, and trading. When the United States turned over the Panama Canal and the many military installations the American government had held, it spurred large construction projects in the country such as Panama Pacifico, which is located at the former Howard Air Force Base. A number of multinational corporations have office space or other facilities in Panama Pacifico, including 3M, DELL, VF Corp., BASF, Samtec, and Caterpillar. Panama’s main exports are bananas, fish, shrimp, and petroleum products.

Entertainment And Dining Out

There are many things to see and do in Panama. The country is easy to get around, and with two different oceans, mountains, rainforests, and a vibrant urban center, it is a very popular tourist destination. Panama City offers an urban environment that is similar to that of Miami. It offers great shopping, dining, arts, and fashion options. Coiba National Marine Park consists of the island of Coiba (the largest island in Central America) and 37 surrounding islands and islets. Here you will find an abundance of rare species, and you can scuba and snorkel in many areas. Panamanian cuisine includes specialties such as Ceviche (fish marinated in lime juice, onions and peppers), Patacones de plátano (fried plantain), Sancocho (chicken, meat, and vegetable stew), Empanadas (turnovers filled with meat, chicken, or cheese), Gallo pinto (rice and beans), Yucca Frita (fried yucca), and Raspados (this desert is similar to snow cones, but topped with condensed milk and syrup).

Transport Information

Flights into Panama go through the Tocumen International Airport, which lies about 20 miles east of Panama City. Domestic flights and flights from Costa Rica are also served by David Airport. Local travelers and tourists also use the Bocas Del Toro International Airport in Costa Rica. Once in country, you can get around Panama by bus, taxi, car, or plane.
