As the largest historic residential neighborhood in Washington DC, Capitol Hill is situated in front of the United States Capitol building and grounds. Capitol Hill is bordered by the Anacostia River, the H Street corridor, the Southeast/Southwest Freeway, the Washington Naval Yard, the National Mall, and the city’s central business district. The term ‘Capitol Hill’ has been used to describe the historic district, the neighborhood and as a nickname for congress.

Capitol Hill has a growing, diversified economy with an increasing percentage of professional and business service jobs. The federal government accounts for close to 30% of all jobs in the DC area. There are so many things to do within Capitol Hill, you can visit the White House and Capitol buildings, go to any of the 19 Smithsonian museums, or visit Arlington National Cemetery. There are tours to Mount Vernon, Monticello, Gettysburg, and more. The nearest major airport is Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. This airport runs international and domestic flights and is 4 miles from the center of Washington, DC. Another major airport is Washington Dulles International Airport, which offers international and domestic flights from Dulles, Virginia and is 26 miles from Washington, DC. Baltimore International Thurgood Marshall Airport has international and domestic flights from Baltimore, Maryland and is 33 miles from Washington, DC. The Washington Metro is the city’s rapid transit system and services the Capitol Hill area. Eastern Market, Capitol South and Potomac Avenue stations are all within the area. The Capitol South Metro and Metrobus also run through the neighborhood. Pennsylvania Avenue is a main road link to the Capitol Hill area.
