Outside the bustle of the cities, you will find tranquillity set amongst the breath-taking landscape, whether you are visiting the Royal Palace, walking around the temples at Angkor Wat or relaxing on the white sandy beaches at Sihanoukville, Cambodia offers an incredible blend of history and tradition set within a modernising country.
Business Information
The two pillars of Cambodia s stable economy are textiles and tourism. The garment industry alone accounts for 80% of the country’s exports, increasing by 9% in 2012, boosted by investment from China and Japan. An open economic policy also attracts a lot of foreign companies and investors, Tiffany & Company currently are building a diamond polishing factory in Phnom Penh, with a number of large Japanese manufacturers like Nagoya, also rushing to set up operations there. Tourism is also growing at a steady rate, with a 24% increase in 2012 and predicted year on year growth.
Entertainment and Dining Out
Apart from the historical and cultural sites, local markets will get you acquainted with the countries produce, where you can buy textiles, antiques and jewellery. A favourite location for shopping is the New Central Market in the capital. There are numerous choices when it comes to dining out, with Cambodian food highly rated for its simplicity, freshness and regionalism. Phnom Penh is considered one of the best places to eat, covering authentic cuisine next to western and Asian influences with popular places lining the riverfront and Boeung Keng Kang 1 areas of the city.
Transport Information
Cambodia has three main international airports, located in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville, with smaller regional airports covering the rest of the country. The rail network is currently being reconstructed as part of the Trans-Asia Railway, but you can travel around the country by air conditioned bus or ferry, which operates seasonally along the main river routes departing from the major cities. Once in the cities you can get around very easily by Taxi, Remork or the traditional rickshaw.
