London Legacy Development Corporation to relocate next to the Olympic park in order to oversee development projects

The London Legacy Development Corporation has recently announced plans to relocate next to Stratford’s Olympic Park in order that they can oversee the £292 million redevelopment project which will take place on completion of the 2012 Games.

Westfield’s One Stratford Place development site will house the company in order that they are positioned closer to the Olympic Park and also to attract private investment on a global scale. The organisation is currently situated at East Thames House in West Ham Lane, Stratford, and CBRE and Cushman & Wakefield are the current leasing agents appointed by Westfield.

On the 1st April 2012, The Olympic Park Legacy Company will become the London Legacy Development Corporation in order to develop and manage the future Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park during the next 20 years.

Chief Executive of the Olympic Park Legacy Company, Andrew Altman, says, “With the switch to the London Legacy Development Corporation, we will be moving closer to the Olympic Park so that we are ready to take operational control as soon as the 2012 Games finish. We will be in the right location to showcase the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to private investors along with overseeing the creation of a new piece of London that will offer thousands of new homes, jobs and business opportunities.”

The organisation will have further responsibilities for the Park, to include planning authority and building connections with the surrounding areas and other communities.

Director of Westfield Stratford City, John Burton, is excited about the project and says, “having secured two major occupiers in quick succession, we are confident of Stratford’s status as an emerging business location. We now have some exciting prospects in play for the remaining space and strong interest in the pre-let opportunities.”

The London Legacy Development Corporation will share the London office space with the British Olympic Association as well as the British Paralympic Association for Team GB House throughout the London 2012 Olympic Games.
