Construction started in 2001 and took two years to complete. Built on the site of the old Baltic Exchange the famous structure features 7,429 panes of glass and 35Km of steel. The Helix Restaurant can be found on level 39 of the Gherkin and takes its name from the helix shaped structure of the building itself. It offers a suave and sophisticated dining experience where you can take in the surrounds of the City whilst enjoying well crafted fine dining dishes. A starter of Sherry smoked salmon, pickled cucumber and horse radish cream followed by a main course of Shorthorn sirloin steak, crushed Northumberland potatoes and king oyster mushrooms will cost around £60. A budget friendly bottle of wine to accompany your dish will cost between £40-£50.

The Iris bar on level 40 of the Gherkin is at the very top of the building and offers spectacular 360 degree panoramic views of the City. The bar’s name is taken from the Gherkin’s iris-shaped peak and here you can sip a “London Fields” cocktail (Plymouth sloe gin, Cox’s apple, lemonade, lavender extract) for just £14.
